Abstract

820,599. Control systems for heating resistors. MASCHINENFABRIK P. PFENNINGSBERG G.m.b.H. Aug. 1, 1957 [Sept. 8, 1956], No. 24433/57. Class 38 (4). In an automatic washing-machine the sequence of the washing operations is arranged to be interrupted until a predetermined water temperature has been reached. The sequence of washing operations is controlled by a preset device comprising two discs 2, 3 driven by a motor 1. The washing process normally begins with the discs 2, 3 having the positions marked A at a registering position. When the washing container is filled with water a float switch 9 is closed so that the motor 1 is energized over contacts 5, 6 to drive the discs 2, 3. Simultaneously, relays 21, 22 are energized over contacts 5<SP>1</SP>, 16 and contact 14 of a temperaturesensitive switch, the relays 21, 22 causing the water heaters and the main washing machine motor to be energized respectively. If, when the disc 3 has rotated through an angle α to position B where the arm carrying the contact 5 enters a recess 4, the water is not sufficiently heated the motor 1 is de-energized due to the contacts 5, 6 opening. The water heaters remain energized since contacts 5<SP>1</SP>, 16 remain closed until, when the water reaches the required temperature, a thermostat 13 in the washing container causes the switch 14 to open to deenergize the water heaters and the main motor and causes a switch 15 to close to re-energize the motor 1 to continue the drive on the discs 2, 3. When the discs have rotated through an angle (α+ #α) the arm bearing the contact 5<SP>1</SP> enters a recess 10 in the disc 2 whereby a circuit is completed for a relay 23 which causes energization of the main motor such that it effects a " centrifuging " operation. If, when the discs have rotated through the angle α, the water has become sufficiently heated the switch 15 will be closed when the contacts 5, 6 opens; the washing sequence will not therefore be interrupted.
