Abstract
An olefin polymerization catalyst comprises a mixture of a boron hydride or an alkyl derivative of diborane or of borine with a halide or a beta-ketone chelate of a metal of Groups IVA, VA, VIA, VIIA or VIII or a carbonyl of a metal of Groups VIA, VIIA or VIII.ALSO:Olefins are polymerized in a reaction medium prepared by admixing a boron compound comprising boron hydride, an alkyl derivative of diborane or an alkyl derivative of borine, a metal halide of a metal from Group IVa, Va, VIa or VIII or from the rare earths, or a metal carbonyl of a metal from Group VIa, VIIa or VIII or a metal beta-ketone chelate of a metal of Group IVa, Va, VIa, VIIa or VIII, and an inert liquid hydrocarbon. Specified olefins are ethylene, propylene, butene-1, butadiene and mixtures thereof.
