[Also in Group XXXIV] A rotary body with a rigidly adhering elastic covering and with a perforated inlay interposed between it and a metallic base, is characterized in that the adhesive surface of the base having a width corresponding to that of the covering is provided with cut-out portions for increasing its adhesive surface and that the inlay stretching essentially over the whole of the adhesive surface of the base consists of a wire mesh or grid and rests on those parts interposed between such cut-out portions but, at the remaining parts, is completely enclosed by the covering around it. In an embodiment a flexible wheel for band grinding machines comprises a metal wheel 6 provided around its periphery with helical grooves or flutings 9 against which is placed an insertion 10 consisting of woven steel wires after which the contoured plastic facing 11, e.g. of the polyester-diisocyanate type, is bonded on to the wheel. The grooves may be wedge-shaped (Fig. 3). The insertions may be welded in position or secured by additional encircling bands and may consist of a single or several superimposed layers.
