Abstract

820,219. Nuclear reactor control rods. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 21, 1957 [June 27, 1956], No. 19976/56. Class 39(4). Nuclear reactor control rods are formed of carbon and an element having a high neutron capture cross-section, such as cadmium, gadolinium or boron. In one embodiment coke powder, pitch and boron carbide are mixed and baked at 1100‹C., by the process described in Specification 595,759 [Group V] and then ground to shape.
