Abstract

Fibre boards are coated with a composition which comprises 40 to 60 per cent by weight of an aqueous dispersion of a mixture consisting of an aqueous film-forming latex containing 30 to 15 per cent of a solid polymer selected from homopolymers of vinyl acetate, styrene, or acrylic esters, copolymers of acrylic esters with styrene, vinyl toluene, vinyl chloride, or vinylidene chloride and optionally a minor amount of acrylonitrile, and terpolymers of vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride and ethyl acrylate, and butadiene vinyl toluene and ethyl acrylate, and 2-ethyl-hexyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, and styrene, and 70 approach the nozzle openings 21 as closely as possible; blocking gas flowing out of space 19 can thus be brought into the immediate vicinity of the nozzles without being diluted by drying gas. In another embodiment, three currents of blocking gas are passed to the rotating disc, one of them being supplied via a bore-channel in the shaft. A rotating disc provided with radial blades may be used for spraying the liquid. A fixed spraying nozzle may also be used.ALSO:A coating composition comprises a 40 to 60 per cent by weight aqueous dispersion of a mixture consisting of an aqueous film-forming latex containing 30 to 15 per cent of a solid polymer selected from homopolymers of vinyl acetate, styrene, or acrylic esters, copolymers of acrylic esters with styrene, vinyl toluene, vinyl chloride, or vinylidene chloride and optionally a minor amount of acrylonitrile, and terpolymers of vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride and ethyl acrylate, and butadiene, vinyl toluene, and ethyl acrylate, and 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, and styrene, and 70 to 85 per cent of non-film-forming inturnescent solids consisting essentially of (1) a foam-forming ingredient comprising monoammonium phosphate, diammonium phosphate, phosphoric acid, ammonium sulphate, sulphamic acid, ammonium sulphamate, ammonium bromide, sodium tungstate, or sodium borate; (2) from 10 to 70 per cent based on the weight of the foamforming ingredients of at least one polyhydric compound selected from starch, the hexitols, the pentitols, and the mono- or di-tetritols; and (3) from 0 to 55 per cent based on the weight of the foam-forming ingredient, of an organic nitrogen compound selected from glycine, urea, dimethyl urea, guanyl urea, guanidine, and dicyandiamide. The polyhydric compound may be mono or dipentaerythritol. The compositions may also contain pigments, dyes, fungicides, and bactericides, e.g. sodium-pentachlorophenolate, beta-naphthol, copper fluoride, boric acid, borax, zinc salts, fluorides, arsenates, or arsenites. The compositions may be used for coating fibre boards.
