Abstract
819,008. Fishing reels. URFABRIKEN A.B. July 15, 1957 [July 16, 1956], No. 22406/57. Class 48. [Also in Group XXIV] In a fishing reel having a driving mechanism comprising a transmission member, e.g. a gearwheel 16, in driving relation with winding means, e.g. a bevelled gear 1, and in frictional engagement with a coupling member 5 operable by means of a crank 9, a spring 14 acts in the direction of the crank shaft to maintain pressed against each other the gear-wheel 16, the coupling member 5 and a driving member 6 actuated by the crank 9, the coupling member 5 and the driving member 6 having co-operating driving abutments 23, 24 permitting limited relative rotation between them and having further at least one cam surface 22 adapted at such relative rotation to produce relative axial displacement of the driving member 6 and the coupling member 5 and thereby a variation of the spring tension, the arrangement being that the displacement, the spring tension and consequently the frictional engagement between the coupling member 5 and the gear wheel 16 are decreased when the crank is rotated in a direction corresponding to unwinding of the line and are increased when the crank is rotated in a direction corresponding to winding of the line. The driving member 6 and the coupling member 5 constitute the crank shaft and are mounted in a boss 4 of the reel casing 3. The coupling member 5 is secured against axial displacement by a forked plate 7 secured to the casing 3 and slidably engaging in a peripheral groove in the coupling member 5. The coupling member 5 has a toothed ring 20 co-operating with a pawl 21 to prevent rotation of the coupling member in the direction corresponding to unwinding of the line. The driving member 6 is rotatable and axially displaceable in the boss 4 and is secured at its outer end to the crank 9. The gear wheel 16 is rotatably mounted on the enlarged inner end of an inner shaft 10 extending through both the driving member 6 and the coupling member 5. A friction pad 18 is disposed between the inner face of the gear-wheel 16 and a pressure plate 17 on the inner end of the inner shaft 10, and a second friction pad 19 is disposed between the outer face of the gear-wheel 16 and the inner end face of the coupling member 5. The spring 14 is disposed in a cylindrical recess in the driving member 6 and acts between the bottom of the recess and the hub 12 of a starshaped spring adjusting knob 13 screwed on to the outer end of the inner shaft 10. The cooperating abutments 23, 24 comprise two abutments 23 on the outer end of the coupling member 5 and two abutments 24 on the inner end of the driving member 6 and the cam surface 22 consists of a screwed shaped surface formed on the inner end of the driving member 6. If the crank is rotated from the position shown to disengage the abutments 23, 24 the coupling member 5 will be prevented from rotating by the pawl 21 and the abutments 23 will slide on the cam surface 22 so that the driving member 6 will move to the left under the action of the spring 14. Consequently the spring tension and the frictional engagement between the coupling member 5 and the gear-wheel 16 will' be reduced.
