Abstract

<PICT:0818332/IV (c)/1> <PICT:0818332/IV (c)/2> <PICT:0818332/IV (c)/3> Fabric is fed into a winch dyeing machine in continuous rope form along a trough through which liquor is circulated to plait or fold the fabric into a perforated compartment at one side of the machine, said trough being given an arcuate movement longitudinally of the machine. As shown, the machine comprises a vat A having a roller A1 over which fabric is passed from feed roller A2 to driven oval winch A3. An inclined trough B mounted transversely from side to side of the vat is given an arcuate movement by link b2 actuated by crank b3 driven from winch A3 so that the fabric is folded into perforated compartment a. Dye liquor is transported by pump B1 from vat A to the upper end of trough B, where fabric enters and is assisted in its movement along the trough to compartment a by the downward flow of dye liquor. Feed roller A2 may be driven at the same speed as or at a speed slightly greater than that of winch A3. In order to prevent any build up or loss of material, compartment a (Fig. 3) may house a perforated tank a1 pivoted at a6 at one end and supported at the other end by a bracket a2 engaged by arm a3 mounted on spindle a4 and counterbalanced by weight a5, which is adjusted so as to allow a predetermined weight of fabric to be fed into tank a1, after which the free end of the tank is lowered and operates switch b4 to stop feed roller A2 until sufficient fabric has been withdrawn from tank a1 to allow weight a5 to cause the free end of the tank to rise, reclose switch b4 and restart delivery of fabric. Alternatively mechanical means, e.g. a lever and rod mechanism actuated by a variable V-belt drive, may be employed to control feed roller A2.
