[Also in Group XXV] Some of the link plates of a multiple plate balance or hoist chain project beyond the edges of the remainder for engagement in an annular groove in the peripheral surface of a pulley. The chain shown comprises two sets of plates 2 arranged one on each side of a set of guide plates 4 and pivoted thereto by pins 10 which are locked in position by split pins. Each plate 2 has a curved inner edge 5 which fits the periphery 6 of a pulley 7, rounded corners 14 to permit bending of the chain around the pulley, and sharp corners 16 to limit reverse bending. Each plate 4 has a projecting portion 8 which enters a groove 9 in the pulley and has a curved edge 12 which conforms with the curvature of the bottom of the groove 9 while leaving a small clearance 13 therebetween. Each plate 4 also has sharp corners 16 to limit reverse bending. Additional sets of plates 2 may be provided at each side of the chain.
