817,847. Centrifugal casting machines; continuous casting. METALLURGIQUE D'ESPERANCE-LONGDOZ S.A. March 27, 1957 [March 27, 1956], No. 9970/57. Class 83 (1). Metal is continuously and centrifugally cast between two circular cooled moulds, the annular space between the moulds, in which the metal solidifies, being preceded by a supply chamber integral with the external mould and driven in the same direction of rotation, the level of the liquid metal in the supply chamber and the speed of rotation being such that the metal in course of solidification is urged through the annular space and extruded. Molten metal is poured from a tilting-vat 7, Fig. 6, in which the level is maintained constant by a float 11 cooperating with a motor 12 controlling the tilting- cylinder 13, through a shoot 3, Fig. 1, into the supply chamber 4, thence into the recess between inner and outer moulds 2, 1. The mould 1 is supported on driving-rollers 31, stops 32 check sideways thrusts and the inner mould 2 is carried by a rotating shaft 34 and is cooled by a liquid supplied by a device 35 through passages 28. Gas and lubricant may also be supplied through other passages. The inner and outer moulds may be connected by coolant-tubes crossing the supply-chamber 4. Pieces for hot-rolling may be obtained by splitting the centrifuged pipes longitudinally along one or several lines, and bending or flattening said pieces. Alternatively, partitions may be placed between the interior and exterior moulds to produce several curved bands. The partition may be in helical form. The cast pipe is withdrawn by hydraulic gripping-collars 17, 18, fitted into rotating-frames 19, 20 and longitudinally reciprocated, and is supported by rollers 21 carried by hydraulic cylinders 22 which compensate for out-of-balance of the pipe. A device 23 may grip and move with the pipe while it is cut by a torch 24 or other means. Cut-off lengths are received by supporting- devices 25, Fig. 10, which are actuated by pistons 26, and transfer the pipe to a ramp 27. The level of the melt in the chamber 4 is maintained constant by means 16, Fig. 7.
