Abstract

The invention comprises the n-butyl diester, the n-butyl monoester, the isopropyl diester, the isopropyl monoester, the n-octyl diester, and the n-octyl monoester of trans-hexahydroterephthalic acid, the acid chlorides of the n-butyl monoester, of the isopropyl monoester and the n-octyl monoester of trans-hexahydrophthalic acid and the acid chloride of the methyl monoester of trans - hexahydroterephthalic acid. The acid chlorides are prepared by known methods, the corresponding monoesters, e.g. by treatment with thionyl chloride. The monoesters are prepared by saponifying the corresponding diesters, by monoesterifying trans-hexahydroterephthalic acid, or by hydrogenating the corresponding monoesters of terephthalic acid. In the examples, the n-butyl, isopropyl and octyl diesters of trans-hexahydroterephthalic acid are prepared by diesterifying trans-hexahydroterephthalic acid with n-butanol, isopropanol and n-octanol respectively in the presence of concentrated sulphuric acid, the corresponding monoesters are prepared by the partial saponifying the diesters with potassium hydroxide, and the acid chlorides corresponding to the monoesters and of the methyl monoester of transhexahydroterephthalic acid are prepared by treating the monoesters with thionyl chloride.
