Abstract

816,953. Speed governors. BUCHI, A. J. July 18, 1955 [Aug. 12, 1954], No. 20680/55. Class 57. A control for a supercharged internal-combustion engine comprises a manually-adjustable throttle 1<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, in a duct 3 connected with the supercharger 8 for selecting a predetermined engine speed, variations in the pressure of the supercharge operating a pneumatic device 10 regulating the supply of fuel and a device 5 regulating the flow of supercharged air whereby the selected speed is maintained with variations in engine load. The device 5 is connected by a linkage 15<SP>1</SP> to a valve 20<SP>1</SP> mounted on the opposite side of a chordwise-extending wall 18 from the throttle 1<SP>1</SP> which is connected to a pedal control 41 or a manually-adjusted linkage. The wall 18 subdivides a venturi section 2<SP>1</SP> and the part containing the valve 1<SP>1</SP> is connected by a pipe 12 to one side of a diaphragm in the device 10, the other side of the diaphragm being connected by a pipe 11 to a non-divided duct 17. The pressure in the latter is also communicated by a pipe 19 to the device 5 which is prevented from hunting by a dashpot 7<SP>1</SP>. Fig. 4 shows the control applied to the induction pipe 3<SP>111</SP> of a supercharged engine supplied with fuel from a carburetter. A conical throttle valve 1<SP>111</SP> may be adjusted by a pedal 4<SP>111</SP> through a lever 21<SP>111</SP>, a gear-wheel R, and a rack Z. The lever 21<SP>111</SP> may also be moved relatively to the pedal 4<SP>111</SP> by a diaphragm mounted in a casing 5<SP>111</SP> and connected by a conduit 19<SP>111</SP> to the supercharger outlet 17. The fuel supply to the carburetter is adjusted by a needle valve 23<SP>111</SP> which is controlled by a linkage 22<SP>111</SP> operated by a pneumatic device 10<SP>111</SP> connected by a conduit 12<SP>111</SP> to the induction pipe 3<SP>111</SP>. Stops 24, 25 limit the movement of the pedal 4<SP>111</SP>. In further construction, a butterfly-type of throttle valve mounted in the discharge duct from a supercharger is controlled by a linkage similar to that shown at 4<SP>111</SP>, 5<SP>111</SP> and 21<SP>111</SP> in Fig. 4, while the fuel supply is controlled by a device similar to that shown at 10 in Fig. 1.
