Abstract
3 - Methyl - 3 - carboxy - cyclohexanone - (1) -2b -propionic acid is obtained by the saponification of the cyclic imide obtained as described in the parent Specification by heating 3-methylcyclohexanone - (1) - 2b - propionic acid - 3-carboxylic acid amide. In an example the dicarboxylic acid imide is saponified with potassium hydroxide solution and the oily product dissolved in ether-petroleum ether and crystallized to give crystals of 3-methyl-3-carboxycyclohexanone-(1)-2b -propionic acid.
