Abstract
4-Iodoveratrol is prepared by adding a carbon tetrachloride solution of iodine slowly to a dry mixture of silver trifluoroacetate and veratrol. 4-Phenoxycatechol dimethyl ether is prepared by heating together a mixture of 4-iodoveratrol, sodium phenate, and copper powder. 4-Phenoxycatechol is prepared by adding 4-phenoxycatechol dimethyl ether slowly to a melted mixture of anhydrous aluminium chloride and sodium chloride. 4-(2-Cyclopentenyl)-catechol is prepared by adding cyclopentadiene slowly to a suspension of catechol and phosphoric acid in toluene. 1 : 2-Diethoxalyl-4-phenylcatechol is prepared by reacting 4-phenylcatechol and ethoxalyl chloride in dioxane and quinoline. 1 : 2-Diethoxalyl - 4 - phenoxycatechol and 1 : 2 : 3-triethoxalylpyrogallol are similarly prepared.
