Abstract
Aromatic fibre- and film-forming polyesters are brightened by adding an optical brightening agent during the manufacture of the polymer. It may be added either during the ester interchange or the polycondensation stage. Specified polyesters are highly polymeric polymethylene and polyethylene terephthalates. Specified brightening agents are the 2-stilbyl-(naptho-11 : 21 : 4 : 5) 1 : 2 : 3 triazoles disclosed in Specification 763,696, particularly 2-(ethylamido sulphonyl) 4 - [2 - (11 : 21 - naphtho) 1 : 2 : 3 - triazolyl] stilbene, and di - (o - chlorophenyl) anthra - 11 : 91(N) : 101(N) : 51 - dipyridazone. TiO2 may be added as a delustrant. Specifications 651,694 and 763,696, [Group IV (b)], are referred to.
