Abstract

A synthetic resin composition comprises polyvinyl chloride, a vinyl chloride copolymer, particularly a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, or a cellulose ester, particularly nitrocellulose, and a polyester which has a softening point above 100 DEG C. and whose acid component consists at least in part of fumaric acid. The polyester may be produced from ethylene glycol, 1.4-butane diol or hexamethylene glycol and fumaric acid, with or without other di- or polycarboxylic acids such as succinic, sebacic, adipic, hexahydroterephthalic or terephthalic acid. Compositions containing vinyl chloride polymers may be used to produce foils or extruded to form tubes. In an example a lacquer is produced by mixing 16 parts of collodion cotton with 40 parts of a polyester having a softening point of 130 DEG C. and a molecular weight of about 5000 produced from 1 mol. fumaric acid and 1 mol. 1.4-butane diol and dissolving the mixture in methylene chloride to form a 15 per cent solution.
