Abstract

811,282. Magnetic tape record apparatus. STARCK, A. L. July 5, 1957 [July 6, 1956], No. 21432/57. Class 40 (2). An index carrier adapted to be fitted on the spool of a magnetic record tape comprises a plurality of radial elements each provided with a tangential reference mark defining the location of a corresponding elementary record. The first embodiment, Fig. 1, comprises a transparent disc with a central hole G for fitting over the carrier spindle for the spool and having a series of angularly equidistant radial reference lines D each with a reference mark E corresponding to a predetermined winding diameter. Titles or references for the different elementary records may be written in the spaces provided. A second embodiment, Fig. 2, shows a similar disc, but which is opaque and provided with apertures E<SP>1</SP>1 for observing the amount of tape on the spool. The discs may have projecting tongues H to retain them in position while the spools beneath rotate. In a third embodiment, Fig. 6, reference marks M are imprinted on a number of separate tongues N pivotally mounted on a common eye O adapted to fit over the carrier spindle so as to form a sort of gauge which opens to form a fan-like arrangement.
