Abstract
811,249. Variable capacitors. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Feb. 5, 1957, No. 3986/57. Class 37. [Also in Group XL (c)] A radio transmitter receiver, employing remote control of crystal banks providing coarse and fine tuning, uses a motor-driven mechanical system to rotate both the crystal bank selector switches, and the coarse and fine tuning of the R.F. and I.F. circuits. Since the tuning of the R.F. circuits is mechanically linked to the rotating crystal selector switches, in order to achieve complete frequency coverage by equal rotational increments of the tuning capacitor, Fig. 5, vanes are provided giving 180 degree meshing. The arcuate sector through which the rotor plate extends is in excess of 180 degrees so that the short straight edge 155 is not a continuation of the long straight edge 156, and a corresponding cut-out is made in the stator plate 153. The I.F. tuning capacitor, Fig. 6, is shaped to provide a symmetrical tuning characteristic, the stator being mounted at the lower end of its long lobe 163 to minimize asymmetry of its capacitance curve.
