Abstract
810,987. Welding wire fabrics; bending wire. EVG ENTWICKLUNGSUND VERWERTUNGESELLSCHAFT. May 16, 1956 [May 18, 1955], No. 15264/56. Class 83 (4). Apparatus for making a welded wire grid consisting of parallel longitudinal wires and a continuous transverse wire extending to and fro across the longitudinal wires, comprises two rotatable coaxial spaced toothed rims, means for moving the longitudinal wires between the rims transverse to their common axis, means for laying the transverse wire between the rims and bending the transverse wire around one or more teeth on each rim alternately and means for welding the wires at their crossing points. A metal cylinder 10, Fig. 1, carrying offset projecting teeth 11, 12 at its ends is rotated step by step by a spring-pressed pawl 14 operated by a lever having a pin engaging a cam groove 22 in a gear wheel 23 driven from a shaft 24. A nozzle 28 through which the transverse wire 48 is fed from a reel 46 is reciprocated across the stationary cylinder in a guide 30 by a lever 29 actuated by a crank 34 on a shaft 35 driven from the shaft 24 to lay the wire 48 across the cylinder. The guide 30 is pivoted in bearings 39, 40 and is swung by a linkage 41, 42 driven by a cam on the shaft 35 each time the drum advances one tooth, that is, when the nozzle is at one end of the guide (see Figs. 5, 6). The longitudinal wires 50 from a reel 49 overlie the transverse wire on the drum and the wires are welded at their crossing points when the cylinder is stationary by electrodes 51 in a frame 52 vertically reciprocated by push rods 59 engaging cam grooves 57 in gear wheels 56 driven from the wheel 23. The welded fabric is fed via a guide roll 60 to a winding roll 61 belt driven from the shaft 24. In a modification the teeth 11, 12, Fig. 7, on the cylinder 10 are in line and a nozzle 28 through which the wire 48 is fed is guided on a rail 66 and is reciprocated by a chain 67 driven by sprockets 68 from a motor 70 so that the wire is laid along a path substantially parallel to the axis of the rims but radially outwardly spaced from their circumference. When the nozzle arrives at the right-hand position in Fig. 7 with the wire beneath the cylinder a set of contacts 74 are actuated to operate an electromagnetic control means. A right-hand spider 64 is rotated by an electromagnet 76 to urge the wire into a gap between a pair of teeth 12 and the cylinder is then rotated one or more teeth by an electromagnetically operated pawl 14. The nozzle is then moved to the left by the chain, a spring-loaded lever 65 holding the wire against the cylinder and when it reaches its limit position a set of contacts 74a are actuated to operate the control means. In a further modification the transverse wire guide consists of a T-shaped rocker 94, Fig. 9, with a roller 95 at each end and a single transverse shaft 96 guided in a rail 97. The guide is reciprocated by a pulley cable 104 and on reaching either limit position the rocker tilts upwardly to introduce the wire into a tooth gap. The cylinder is rotated one or more teeth and the wire is held behind a semicircular member 101 or 102. The cylinder may be replaced by a stationary electrode beam carrying replaceable counter electrodes and two drums which are adjustable towards or away from one another on a rotary shaft carry the teeth.
