Abstract
The bulk density of silica, alumina, or calcium silicate aerogel, having a bulk density of 50 gm./l., or less, is increased by grinding under a reduced pressure of less than 160 mm. of Hg. Grinding may be effected in a ball, vibratory, edge, pendulum roller, ring roller or spring roller mill. Operation may be continuous or intermittent. The examples specify reduced pressures of 15-18 mm. for the production of bulk densities of 150-350 gm./l. in 12 min. 6 hrs.
