Abstract
Pharmaceutical compositions useful for oral parenteral or topical administration in the treatment of allergic conditions, e.g. asthma, hay fever and inflammatory diseases, comprise at least one amino-guanidine derivative of the formula: <FORM:0809165/VI/1> wherein of the substituents A and B, one stands for a phenyl, a naphthyl or tetrahydronaphthyl radical which may optionally bear substituents and the other stands for hydrogen or for an alkyl radical, R, R1 and R11 stand for hydrogen or for alkyl radicals and wherein R111 stands for hydrogen, an alkyl radical or an aralkyl radical, or a salt thereof, in admixture with non-toxic pharmaceutically acceptable diluents or carriers therefor. Examples of the active ingredients are: N1-amino-N2-p-chlorophenylguanidine, N1 - amino - N2 - p - methoxyphenylguanidine and N1-amino-N2-phenylguanidine, and the monohydrochloride, stearate and salicylate salts thereof. The compositions may take the form of coated or uncoated tablets containing conventional adjuvants or ion-exchange resins on which have been absorbed the active constituents; oral syrups and elixirs formulated from sweetened aqueous media; oral suspensions in sweetened aqueous media containing suspending and dispersing agents; capsules containing the active ingredient and a solid diluent; injectable preparations, e.g. aqueous solutions, dispersible powders and suspensions in aqueous and oily media; topical preparations, e.g. creams, ointment and lotions. Adjuvants used in formulating the above preparations include, calcium carbonate, maize starch, alginic acid, magnesium stearate, "Amberlie" (Registered Trade Mark) IR-120, aqueous glycerin containing saccharin, aqueous alcohol containing sucrose, methyl and propyl parabens, sodium carboxy methylcellulose, sodium alginate, polyvinylpyrrolidone, lecithin, polyoxyethylene stearate, heptadeca-ethyleneoxycetanal and related compounds, polyoxyethylene sorbitol hexa-oleate and related compounds, polyoxyethylene sorbitan mono-oleate and related compounds, chlorocresol, arachis oil in the presence of a gelling agent, e.g. aluminium stearate, liquid paraffin, paraffin wax, animal and vegetable oils, e.g. lanolin, fatty alcohols or acids, e.g. cetyl alcohol, stearic or oleic acids and their salts, glycol, sorbital, polyethylene glycols, calamine and zinc oxide. Specification 800,869, [Group IV (b)], is referred to.
