Abstract

808,720. Biscuit sandwich-making machines. OAKES CORPORATION, E. T. April 29,1957 [May 18, 1956], No. 13576/57. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group VI] Cakes, biscuits or the like are fed from a magazine alternately on to upper and lower conveyers those on the lower conveyer receiving filling from a device after which one from the upper conveyer is superimposed on each. Magazine A has a series of troughs 10 forming hoppers for receiving horizontal stacks of cakes C either from an operator or direct from an oven conveyer. The bottoms of the troughs are formed by a continuously driven conveyer belt 11. A plate 12 mounted on a frame F forms the back of a feed slot 13 and engages the end of the stack of biscuits as they pass over a plate 39 and beneath a guide plate 40. A reciprocating bar 16 guided by ribs 41 which engage grooves 42, 42a in plate 12 is driven by a crank 17 and connecting rod 18 and moves up and down in slot 13 alternately pushing a row of cakes up to a conveyer belt 14 and down to a conveyer belt 15. The cakes are guided on to conveyer 14 by a plate 19 secured to guide 40. The cakes moving downwardly are received in a shoot 45 consisting of a plate 46 with partition strips 47 secured to plate 39 and resilient strips 48 to guide the cakes into engagement with the strips 47. The cakes are pushed through shoot 45 and on to conveyer 15 by fingers 20a carried on plates 20 secured to the links of chains 21 which fingers pass between strips 47 and 48. Chains 21 are mounted on sprockets 56, 57 fixed on shafts 58, 59. The cakes are thus placed correctly spaced on conveyer 15 which carries them under a depositor 22. Conveyer 14 is supported on a fixed bar 43 at the receiving end and a roller 60 at its other end, the top flight being supported by a plate 44 and the lower flight passing round a driven roller 61 and a series of guide rollers. The cakes are deposited in rows from conveyer 14 to a shoot 27 carried on a cross-bar extending between the sides of frame F where they are aligned with the cakes on conveyer 15 by guide plates similar to strips 47, 48. Elements 25 have fingers 29 which extend between guide plates 63 and are spaced to correspond with the spacing of the cakes on conveyer 15 so that the cakes from conveyer 14 are deposited on the topped cakes on conveyer 15. Elements 25 are carried on a conveyer 26 consisting of a pair of chains 66 passing over spaced sprockets 68 supported on shafts 70, 71. The sandwiches are pressed together by a roller 75 mounted on an adjustable lever 76. Specification 700,962, [Group VI], is referred to.
