Class 63 In order to facilitate the making of hats of different size and shape from a standard hat body, the body is not made in the usual hollow-cone shape but has such a shape and size that it fits closely over a block as shown, in the form of a half-disc of diameter approximately 469 mm. and of thickness approximately 42 mm., the curved portion of the block being rounded off. For a large hat the whole hat body may be utilized but for smaller hats the body is cut into two halves or into smaller segments, each half or one or more segments being used to form a hat The hat body, when opened out so that its free edge is substantially circular, is approximately hemispherical in shape. A block of the shape and dimensions indicated above may be used to form the hat body and the hat may be modelled on such a block or by simple shaping, pleating, fixing &c.
