Abstract

Fibres of polymers or copolymers of acrylonitrile are spin-dyed by incorporating in the solutions from which they are spun a basic dyestuff which is a resonance hybrid between the general formulae: <FORM:0808308/IV (a)/1> or the corresponding colour base, in which m and n are 0 or 1, X and Y represent divalent atoms or groups which make up the nitrogenous rings to 5 or 6 members, R and R1 represent alkyl, aralkyl, aryl or cycloalkyl groups and R1 may also be hydrogen, and Z- is the equivalent of an inorganic, organic or complex anion. Copolymers specified are those of acrylonitrile with acrylic and methacrylic esters, e.g. butyl methacrylate, acrylamide, methacrylamide, vinyl acetate and propionate, vinyl alcohol, vinyl chloride and fluoride, vinylidene chloride, vinyl pyridine and vinyl imidazole.ALSO:Fibres and like structures of polymers or copolymers of acrylonitrile are dyed with a basic dyestuff which is a resonance hybrid between the general formul <FORM:0808308/IV (c)/1> or the corresponding colour base, in which m and n are 0 or 1, X and Y represent divalent atoms or groups which make up the nitrogenous rings to 5 or 6 members, R and R1 represent alkyl, aralkyl, aryl or cycloalkyl groups and R1 may also be hydrogen, and Z- is the equivalent of an inorganic, organic or complex anion. Dyeing may be effected in an acid bath or in a neutral or alkaline bath, in which latter case, the pH may be lowered during the process. Dyeing is preferably effected at the boil or at temperatures above 100 DEG C. The dyestuffs may also be added to the spinning solutions from which the fibres are made. Examples are given. The dyestuffs are prepared by condensing heterocyclic hydrazones of the formula <FORM:0808308/IV (c)/2> with heterocyclic aldehydes of the formula <FORM:0808308/IV (c)/3> or their anils, salts or quaternization products. They may also be prepared by diazotizing amines of the formula <FORM:0808308/IV (c)/4> and coupling with methylene bases of the formula <FORM:0808308/IV (c)/5> or by condensing hydrazines corresponding to the above amines with aldehydes of the formula <FORM:0808308/IV (c)/6>
