Abstract

808,303. Hollow drying cylinders. ARMSTRONG MACHINE WORKS. Feb. 1, 1957, No. 3550/57. Class 34(1) In a steam-heated drying cylinder 1 the condensed water is removed by means of a scoop 10 and siphon tube 6 which rotate with the cylinder. The water collects in the scoop during its upward movement and passes through a narrow slit 14 into a chamber 15 to which the siphon tube 6 is connected, thence it passes through an axial pipe to outside the cylinder. A rod 8 and weight 9 counterbalance the tube and scop. In a modification (see Fig. 3, not shown) a groove-like sump is formed in the cylinder wall below the rear edge of the scoop.
