Abstract

807,449. Weighing apparatus. BERKEL AUTO SCALE CO. Ltd., (Maatschippij van Berkel's Patent N. V.). Nov. 25, 1955 [Nov. 25, 1954], No. 34160/54. Class 143 A weighing scale of the kind having means mounted for load responsive pivotal movement against the action of loadcounterbal- - ancing means, has an adjustment device comprising spring means so connected to the pivotal means that during said pivotal movement from the half load position of the pivotal means, the spring tension varies in accordance with the second power of angular measure of the pivotal movement, and the power arm of the movement exerted by the spring means on the pivotal means also varies, so that third power errors are counteracted, by third power corrective influences during the weighing operation. Pendulum scales. As shown in Fig. 1a hook members 20, 21 rigidly secured to the sectors of a pair of fixed axis pendulum assemblies (not shown) engage plates 22, 23 attached to springs 24, 25, the effective lengths of which are adjustable by means of a screw actuated slide 28. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) a similar spring device is attached to the ends of a pair of arms adjustably secured to a pair of rolling sector type pendulum assemblies. As shown in Fig. 4 a resilient wire 316 provided with knife edge bearing blocks 314, 315 extends between a knife edge 313 on pendulum assembly 306 and a knife edge 312 on an arm 309 which is adjustably secured to pendulum assembly 305. In Fig. 8 a coil spring 415, the effective length of which is variable by means of an adjustable connection 414, is connected between a pair of arms 407, 408 secured to pendulums 403, 404. Spring balances. Fig. 3 illustrates a spring scale in Which a spring 222 is riveted to the scale frame at 223, is adjustable in effective length by a screw actuated slide 226 and engages, through a knife bearing 221 one end of a link 220 the other end of which is connected to the scale pan support 205 through a bracket 218 and a knife bearing 219. The Specification sets out the mathematical theory of the above arrangements. Specifications 654,104 and 794,504 [Group XXXVI] are referred to.
