A binder for a sand-core comprises a cereal binder, a sugar, water sufficient to mull the mixture, and an inorganic adjunct selected from the group consisting of hydrochloric acid, sodium chloride, a mixture of paraformaldehyde and ammonium chloride, a mixture of paraformaldehyde and hydrochloric acid, and boric acid, but excludes a vegetable-gum.
