Abstract

806,888. Fluid-actuated valves. NORMALAIR Ltd. Oct. 2, 1956 [Oct. 6, 1955], No. 28473/55. Class 135. An automatic air-flow control device for aircraft cabin pressurizing systems comprises a casing for connection in a flow duct and housing a valve member 10, Fig. 1, loaded by a spring 14 and connected by a tubular element 12 to a disc 11 past which the air flows in its passage from the inlet 4 to the outlet 5, the member 12 having bearings 13 which slide upon a guide rod 7 carried by spiders 8, 9. The spring 14 is adjustable by a screwed abutment 15 with a locking pin 19 and urges the valve member 10 to a position in which it closes spill ports 6. The spill ports are opened when the air-flow exceeds a certain amount by the resultant pressure difference acting on the disc 11. In a modification, a pair of lift valves 28, 29, Fig. 5, are employed instead of a piston valve, the area of the valve 28 exposed to the air within the device being slightly greater than that of the valve 29 so that the pressure does not tend to open the valves. A tubular element 30 interconnects the two valves and is connected by a cranked lever 34 pivoted at 36 to a tube 52 which carries the flowresponsive disc 53 and is urged towards the left by an adjustable spring 59. The tube 30 is also connected by a pin 41 to a forked guide bar 38 pivoted at 40 to a fixed bracket 39. The lever 34 and bar 38 are each provided with balance weights 42, 43. The tube 52 is slidable in a bearing sleeve 50.
