806,838. Photographic printing apparatus. NICOLL Ltd., D. O. Aug. 1, 1957 [Aug. 1, 1956], No. 23756/56. Class 98(2) In a multi-frame photographic printing cabinet of the kind wherein each frame incorporates pneumatic means for causing the photographic negative or other transparency to be held in contact with the sensitized material, the pneumatic means is used to drive a pneumatic motor operating the fluid or shutter automatically under the control of a timer. As shown, one side of the cabinet which encloses the printing lamp (not shown) has a window 2 closed during exposure by a printing frame 3. The frame is hinged and may be swung down as shown for loading and unloading, the window being closed meanwhile by a shutter 1 sliding in guides 1a. The other walls of the cabinet are similarly constructed. The shutter is raised by a piston 6 movable in a cylinder 5 by compressed air supplied through a tube 10 under the control of a valve 9, operated by a timer of known kind, not shown. The compressed air is also connected via a valve and a conduit 8 to frame 3, to force the negative into contact with the sensitized paper. Alternatively, the air operating the system may be at sub-atmospheric pressure; or the shutter 'may be operated by compressed air while suction is applied to the frame. The shutter may move upwards, instead of downwards, to close the window.
