Abstract
806,226. Waterproofing building materials. MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd. Oct. 25, 1956 [Nov. 14, 1955 ; Dec. 23, 1955], No. 32574/56. Class 140. Building material liable to contain free lime is waterproofed by treatment with an organopolysiloxane and a substance which protects this silicone coating from deterioration by the free lime. The protecting substance may be applied prior to or concurrently with the silicone. As protecting substance may be used a material which inactivates the lime such as hydrochloric, sulphuric, phosphoric, oxalic, stearic or oleic acid, alkali metal or ammonium sulphates, carbonates or oxalates, alkali metal silicates and fluosilicates, aluminium stearate, triethanolamine sulphate or a stearate palmitate or oleate of morpholine or triethanolamine, or tetraethyl orthosilicate or an ethyl polysilicate. Substances which insulate the waterproof silicone coating such as polyacrylate resin, methyl polymethacrylate, polyvinyl chloride or chlorinated rubber may also be used. Methyl, ethyl, amyl, phenyl, methyl phenyl or ethyl phenyl silicone resins may be applied in solution in aromatic hydrocarbon solvent such as toluene or in aqueous emulsion. The materials may be applied by immersing or brushing and the building material should be first dried. Dispersing agents such as carboxymethyl cellulose or sodium dioctyl sulphosuccinate may be added to the mixtures.
