804,909. Electric analogue calculating systems. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 24, 1954 [Sept. 24, 1953], No. 26279/53. Class 37. A.C. voltages corresponding to Cartesian components of the rate of change of displacements, for example in a radar target tracking system, are converted to servomotor shaft rotations, the magnitudes of which correspond to the polar co-ordinates of speed and course. Feedback is effected by converting the polar coordinate output back to Cartesian component voltages which are applied to the Cartesian signal generating device. The input to the servomotor system is the difference between the feedback signal and the Cartesian component voltages. As shown, the Cartesian components of the displacement rate of change are developed at 1 and 4, as described in Specifications 740,071, 804,905, 804,906, 804,908 and are applied simultaneously to the servomotors 9, 12 through the resolver 3. The angular movements of 9 and 12 represent respectively the target angular position and velocity. The feedback to 1 and 4 is derived from resolver 16 the rotor 15, 17 of which is mounted on the shaft of 9 and is energized from potentiometer 13 in accordance with the rotation of 12. Motor 9 assumes a null position due to the auxiliary feedback loop consisting of rotor coil 6, amplifier 10 and shaft 8.
