Abstract

803,883. Mounting motors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Aug. 19, 1955 [Aug. 20, 1954], No. 24264/54. Class 35. [Also in Group XXXI] The mounting of an electric tractor motor 10 comprises suspension bearings 15, 15 between the vehicle axle 12 and a tubular housing 16, a plurality of rubber rings 23 encircling and spaced along the housing 16, and resiliently mounting the latter in a seating 26 rigid with the motor frame 10, the radial clearance between the housing 16 and the seating 26 being such as to allow limited relative radial and tilting movement of the housing 16 and the motor 10, and separate resilient means 32 interconnecting the housing 16 and the motor 10 for resiliently restraining relative transverse movement of the housing 16 and the motor 10. The resilient means 32 comprise rubber blocks prestressed in compression between a bracket 31 rigid with the housing 16 and a U-shaped bracket 30 rigid with the motor 10. The seating 26 comprises a semicircular part formed integral with the frame of the motor 10 and two semicircular caps 27. The rubber rings 23 are bonded to inner and outer metal tubes 24 and 25, each unit 23, 24, 25 being split diametrically. Insulating sleeves 29, 29 prevent metal-to-metal contact between the housing 16 and the seating 26. A circuit to earth which does not include the bearings 15, is provided by a brush 33 mounted in an insulated brush box 34. The drive from the motor 10 to the axle 12 is by means of a pinion 13 of the motor shaft meshing with a gear wheel 14 carried by the axle 12. The flanks of each tooth of the pinion 13 are tapered so that relative tilting movement of the housing 16 and the motor 10 cannot result in a concentration of tooth loading at the end of the teeth. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), a second assembly of brackets 30, 31, and rubber blocks 32, are mounted above, as well as below, the axle 12. Specifications 561,714, [Group XXIV], 701,978 and 735,587, [Group XXXI], are referred to in the Provisional Specification.
