Abstract

802,694. Furnace walls. HILTON, R. R. B. Dec. 6, 1956 [Jan. 3,1956], No. 233/56. Class 51(1). Gaps between spaced parts of a heating installation are closed by refractory filled flexible and substantially inextensible holders. The gaps between spaced water tubes 1, Fig. 1, of a furnace wall are closed by refractory material 2 applied in a dry, plastic or liquid state in holders 4 of a flexible, inextensible material, e.g. paper, cloth, metal foil. The heat insulating backing 3 may also be applied in holders. A holder containing dry material is porous so that the material may be wetted before use. Tube expansion movement is allowed for as the holders are destroyed when the furnace is fired.
