801,747. Hedge cutters. TELES SMITH, Ltd. Nov. 6, 1956 [Nov. 14,1955], No.32506/55. Classes 6(2) and 6(3). A hand-held motor-driven cutter for trimming hedges and bushes, comprises a rigid toothed blade 3, a saw chain carrying teeth, a saw guide plate 6, and means for transmitting the drive to the chain. The rigid blade 3 is secured by set screws at 2b in a slotted bracket on an extension 2 of the casing 1 of an electric motor, and has an aperture to receive the end of a shaft on which a sprocket 5 is mounted to drive the saw chain. At its outer end, the blade 3 has an aperture to receive the spindle of a disc 5a. The saw chain has toothed links 4 connected by plain links 4a. The saw guide plate 6 is secured to the fixed blade 3 and serves to keep the chain teeth in contact with the blade; on its inner side it is grooved to accommodate the chain linkage of the saw, and is held down by straps 6b and bolts 6c. A narrow plate 7, secured between the two rows of chain links, acts as their support. A three-link chain (i.e., with double connecting links) may be used, and the chain teeth may be bevelled as at 4b or square. The plate 6 may be in two longitudinally separate parts, and the blade 3 may have slots for the bolts 6c to permit longitudinal adjustment.
