Abstract

799,438. Filter presses. SANDERSON & MURRAY, Ltd., and DAVIDSON, M. W. Oct. 12, 1956 [Dec. 17, 1955], No. 36243/55. Class 46. Liquid is extracted from fibrous &c. material by conveying it to a position below a deflated inflatable bag, inflating the bag to urge its outer face into contact with the material to conform with uniform tension to the shape thereof, deflating the bag after the liquid has been extracted, the material being conveyed to and beyond its position beneath the bag intermittently and semi-continuously. A perforated conveyer 5 delivers granular or fibrous material 8 on to a perforated platen 3 beneath an upper platen consisting of a flexible bag 1 suspended by springs 23 from a rigid frame 2 and adapted, when inflated through a central tube 21 to contact the material and press liquid from it through the perforated conveyer 5 and platen 3 into channels 9 beneath the platen and formed by inverted T-section bars, the channels leading to a discharge trough 10. The conveyer is halted while pressure fluid inflates the bag 1 which comprises two flexible sheets 15, 16 secured together at their edges by rigid rings 17, 18, the upper sheet 15 having a central aperture 19 about which an annular flange or plate 20 secures the pipe 21 to the bag.
