A grid for a lead-acid accumulator is formed of inert plastic material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, polythene, polystyrene, a phenol formaldehyde condensation resin, a silicone resin or glass silk with a resinous bonding agent loaded with a lead oxide or a mixture of lead oxides to make it electrically conductive. For a grid for a positive plate polyvinyl chloride is loaded with lead dioxide and for a grid for a negative plate it is loaded with so-called " grey lead oxide ". The grid is preferably moulded from a mixture in which the plastic material is 20-40 per cent by volume of the lead oxide or oxides. According to the Provisional Specification the positive grids may be made of compressed lead dioxide and the negative grids may be made of plastic material loaded with lead or carbon in addition to lead oxide.
