797,444. Automatic generator control systems. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Oct. 10, 1955 [Oct. 22, 1954], No. 28820/55. Class 38 (4). In a system for regulating the voltage and frequency of a motor generator set 1, 2, including a D.C. motor 6 having a field winding 5 receiving a predetermined amount of excitation and driving a rotor carrying a field winding 16 also receiving a predetermined amount of excitation, regulation is effected by the control of additional excitation of the motor field 5 from a transformer 31, across the alternator output, by a magnetic amplifier 24 in accordance with the output from a frequency discriminator 42, and of additional excitation of alternator field 16 also from transformer 31 by a magnetic amplifier 78 in accordance with the generator output voltage through rectifier 103 and bridge 94. Load compensation is applied to windings 25 and 28 respectively of the two amplifiers by transformers 70 and 118 and compensation for changes of ambient temperature are introduced by resistors 52 and 98. A current proportional to the D.C. supply voltage is superimposed on the frequency control current through windings 27 by the unbalance current arising in bridge 58, and a variable resistor 68 may be provided to adjust the slope of the D.C. voltage input against output current of the detector bridge 58. Stability is effected by a transformer 91 coupling the load and control circuits and resistors 56, 76, 112, 124, are provided to obtain desirable time constants. Inductances may also be included for the suppression of harmonics.
