Abstract

795,532. Knitting-machines. F.N.F. MACHINERY MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. Jan. 25, 1956 [Feb. 4, 1955], No. 3459/55. Class 74 (2). A flat warp knitting-machine has a draw-off mechanism comprising a pair of draw-off rollers 69, 69a positively rotated always in directions which are opposed but which are reversible relatively to the direction of rotation of a take-up roller 70, so that, for a constant speed of rotation of the draw-off rollers, the takedown tension may be given any of four values by taking the fabric around the rollers in the desired one of the modes shown in Figs. 12- 12d. The reversal of the sense of rotation of the rollers 69, 69a in changing between modes 12a and 12d on the one hand and modes 12b and 12c on the other, is secured by swinging an arm 88 around a driving gear 84 until that gear drives the desired one of intermeshing roller gears 82, 83 through an idler gear 89. The main frame of the machine comprises a bed 1, carrying the moving knitting elements, and a beam 2 supporting the warp beams 7, 7a. The beam 2 supports pillars 4, 5, 6, which in turn support the warp beams. The beam 2 is supported on only two feet 3, arranged at what would be the outermost points of zero slope on the beam if it were simply supported at those points. The pin jointing of links which provide lateral support in one direction for the pillars, ensures that the whole vertical load from the warp beam assembly shall be transmitted to the beam 2. Shafts 24 (not shown), 25, bearing the eccentrics actuating the knitting elements, are driven, at or near their torsional centres, through gear wheels including wheels 34, 43, by a shaft 33 driven by a main motor through a pulley 50, or by an auxiliary motor 38. The auxiliary motor; used to rotate the machine slowly, acts through a reduction gear, a shaft 52 coaxial with the shaft 33 and an automatic clutch. The clutch comprises an internally threaded dog 57 which moves along an externally threaded sleeve 54 keyed to shaft 52 so as to move into or out of engagement with pins 61 on the pulley 50 as the shaft 52 is rotated faster or more slowly than shaft 33: the clutch is thus automatically disengaged when the main motor 37 drives the pulley 50. Each sheet of warps passes over a reed assembly comprising a rail such as 70a, which helps to damp out oscillations normal to the plane of the warp due to the cyclic vibrations of tension bar 65 or 68, and a reed 64 or 67. Each assembly is adjustable in a direction normal to the plane of the warp, as the diameter of the warp beam decreases, by a hand wheel 80 and pinion, nut and lead screw arrangements 81, 76, 74. The machine is lubricated by a pump which draws oil from a sump enclosing the driving shaft and delivers it to the bearings, the oil then draining back to the sump. The sump, of semi-circular cross-section has, along its sides, lengths of bar which serve as handles and as attachments for pivoted hook bolts by which it may be secured to the machine bed. Specification 524,969 is referred to.
