794,266. Respiratory appliances. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 30, 1956 [June 8, 1955], No. 16437/55. Class 81 (2). [Also in Group VII] In ventilating a protective suit comprising a flexible body portion welded to a rigid transparent head-piece 3, air is drawn through a pipe 10 from a self-contained air-blower unit supported by a harness worn outside the suit and is deflected upwards into the head-piece by a baffle 11, then circulates through the suit and finally leaves through regulators 4, 5; 6, 7 provided at the wrists and ankles respectively. The body portion is made of rubber, polyvinyl chloride, a coated woven fabric or other non- permeable material and consists of two portions 1, 2 overlapping at the waist and connected by buttons 17, the connection being sealed by covering flaps 18, 19 connected by a sliding clasp fastener 20. Each air-flow regulator consists of a non-return exit valve and ejector with tubes 8, 9 extending into the space around the fingers and toes. The air-blower unit comprises a battery-driven or clockwork-driven motor connected to a fan and filter; the filter is made of cotton wool, glass wool, &c. to form a mechanical barrier and may also embody some material for absorbing harmful vapours and gases.
