Abstract

A lance for applying coating material to the inner surface of a cylindrical metal mould, comprises an outer tube supported horizontally by a mounting at one end, an inner tube coaxial therewith and supporting a spray head at the end remote from the mounting, means for moving the inner tube axially, and means for supplying coating material to the spray head. The arrangement is similar to that described in Specification 789,916, but in a modification the coating and ejecting apparatus is supported by a carriage so that it may be moved into and out of the mould while the latter is longitudinally stationary. Further, the outer tube may support brushes which clean the mould after a casting is removed, a partial vacuum being applied to the end of the mould to remove the residue from the mould interior, air being supplied through a small tube extending along the outer tube, to prevent the vacuum from drawing outside air through the length of the mould.
