Abstract

An antibiotic active against cancer, tuberculosis, rheumatism or syphilis is obtained by culturing pseudo proteus immunitatis- or anti - carcinomatosa, anti - tuberculosa, anti-rheumatica or anti-syphilitica in a meat infusion broth at 30-70 DEG C. Preferably the meat infusion broth contains a small quantity of tissue of the respective disease, e.g. cancer tissue. The broth is prepared from infusion of fresh calf meat, peptone and sodium chloride and has a pH of 7.0. Incubation is for 2 to 7 days, preferably at 30-37 DEG C. The broth is filtered, adjusted to pH 6.5 and extracted with butyl alcohol. The extract is adjusted to pH 3.0, the solvent removed from the resulting solution and the residue purified by crystallization from methanol. The antibiotic, which is of unknown constitution, is used medicinally (see Group VI). The microorganism (described) is isolated from the blood of patients suffering from the disease or from the earth in which the bodies of individuals having the respective diseases have decomposed. Blood from a patient is mixed with aqueous sodium citrate, the plasma separated and cultivated in the above sterile meat infusion broth. The desired bacteria are isolated from the mycelium appearing on the surface of the liquid. In the case of the earth from the dead bodies, the earth is cultured on agar at 37 DEG C. and the desired bacteria are selected from the mycelium which grows thereon. The selected bacteria are cultivated in sterile meat infusion broth of pH 7 for 30-37 DEG C. for 1 day, filtered and the filtrable form of the immune bacteria cultivated in sterile meat infusion broth to produce the antibiotic.ALSO:An antibiotic active against cancer, tuberculosis, rheumatism or syphilis obtained by fermentation of pseudo protens immunitatisanti carcinomatosa, anti-tuberculosa, anti-rheumatica or anti-syphilitica (see Group IV (b)) is put up in aqueous solution for injection or mixed with petroleum jelly to form an ointment.
