Abstract
788,938. Drilling-machine details. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS), Ltd. Dec. 16, 1955 [Nov. 8, 1954], No. 32295/54. Class 83 (3). A drilling-machine, e.g. for drilling vertically into a mine roof in preparation for the use of anchor-bolts, comprises a gear-box 10 containing a gear 20, to which is secured a drill-tube 32, and which is driven by a gear 25 carrying a coupling 29 for a power-source. Tube 32 contains a drill-shank 33 driven with the tube by a nut 34, and having secured thereto a piston 36, so that pressure-fluid applied beneath the piston feeds the shank. The tube is fixed to gear 20 by a nut 30, and the fluid, e.g. water, is supplied through a valve and bores 14 and 37-39. When drilling is completed, the valve is operated to exhaust the fluid. The piston may have a hole, through which water may pass for wet-drilling. The gear-box has a locating projection 11 to engage in a depression formed in the floor of the mine. According to the Provisional Specification, the drill-tube is driven by a transverse-pin on the output gear-shaft and the pressure-fluid is supplied direct to the tube, the outlet of which is controlled by an on-off valve.
