Abstract

787,699. Bending glass. CORNING GLASS WORKS. Oct. 20, 1955 [Oct. 22, 1954], No. 30024/55. Class 56. In the shaping'of the surfaces of glass bodies to the contours of the surfaces of other bodies in contact therewith while heated without adhering them, the glass surfaces are provided with an adherent metal oxide film. In Fig. 1 a flat glass body 17 is filmed at 18 before it is pressed, by plunger 19, into engagement with the shaped glass body 10 which also is filmed at 11 and is supported on the bed 12 in the heater H. In Fig. 2 two flat glass plates 25, 26, both filmed at 27, 28, are shaped simultaneously to the contour of the bed. The filming oxide may be coloured or may be invisible; it may remain on or be removed from, the glass surface. Specification 340371, [Group XXXVI] is referred to.
