An apple pushed on the prongs 18 of a rotated hollow mandrel 16 is peeled by a spring- pressed knife 38 moving in an arc along the apple and is cored by a semi-circular coring tool 20 which slides in'over the pronged mandrel end 17 until the core is cut right through and the apple is transferred to the corer 20, where it is held by projections 44 thereon. The peeling knife 38 and the corer 20 are connected to a sliding carriage 6 which is oscillated by a connecting rod 12 from a lever 14 rocked by cams on a hand rotated cam wheel 57. When the carriage reverses (to the left, Fig. 1) the coring tool 20 with the apple also reverses until an abutment 45 reaches a fixed abutment 46 so that the lever 21 swings up so that the apple is pressed against a fork 47 to discharge the apple. During this reverse of the carriage the peeling knife swings up out of the way by rotation about the pivot (27, Fig. 2, not shown). The core still held on the mandrel 16 is pushed off by a rod 19. The peeling knife 38 is shaped with guide lugs. The thickness of the peel is adjusted by setting the guard plate 39 nearer or further from the knife edge. The arcuate movement of the peeling knife is derived from fixed pins (42, Fig. 4, not shown), rocking a pin 29 as the carriage travels to the right, the knife being connected to the pin 29 as in Fig. 3 (not shown).
