Abstract

<PICT:0785797/III/1> In a transfer line reactor 102 which is disposed in and opens into the top of a housing 106, the reactor is surrounded by a plurality of cyclo separators 104 supported by plates 114 extending horizontally across the housing which divide the housing into an upper chamber and a lower chamber which contains a fluidized bed of solids which in operation is above the level of the dip-legs of the cyclones. The reactor is used in catalytic and non-catalytic fluidized reactions particularly the coking of petroleum residue such as shale oils, asphalts, tars, pitches, coal tars, synthetic oils, cycle stock extracts, recycled heavy ends, whole crudes and heavy distillates.
