Abstract

<PICT:0785617/IV (a)/1> A melt spinning apparatus comprises a spinneret plate which is less than 2 mms. thick, in at least that part where the holes are, and is supported not only at its periphery but also in at least one area away from the periphery. The additional support is normally at the centre of the plate. As shown in Fig. 1, the thin spinneret plate 6 is supported through a washer 10 resting on the shoulders 2 of the spinning pack housing 1. The plate is shaped into a circular trough and the spinneret holes 13, 14 are punched into the base of the trough. In the centre of the plate there is a bolt 8 which is threaded via a washer 9 into a bridge plate 3 resting on the plate. The bridge plate 3 has apertures 4, 5 leading to the holes 13, 14. Above the bridge plate there is a melt distribution plate having intersecting grooves on its under-surface to promote even distribution of the melt.
