785,510. Water closet lid with rubber shock absorbing buffer. WINKLER, O., WINKLER, R., and WINKLER, O. [trading as FRANKISCHE HOLZWARENFABRIK OSKAR WINKLER KOMM.-GES.]. Dec. 6, 1955 [Dec. 21, 1954], No. 34970/55. Class 26. A water closet lid 3 has an aperture 6 formed therein through which is drawn a buffer element 5 consisting of a portion of rubber rope, the crosssectional area of which in the stretched condition is equal to or less than the cross-sectional area of the aperture. When the tension applied to the rubber rope is released, it completely fills the aperture while its projecting extremities 7 act as shock absorbers when the lid is opened against the flushing pipe 4 or closed against the seat 2. The aperture may be produced by forming two cut-out portions, one of which passes through the cambered edge of the lid while the other passes through the flat under-surface of the lid, the two portions meeting each other so as to provide a substantially right-angled through passage.
