Abstract
The invention comprises 6-acetyl-1 : 4 : 7-trimethyl - 1 - lower alkyl - 1 : 2 : 3 : 4 - tetrahydronaphthalenes, where "lower alkyl" means methyl and ethyl. The compounds are prepared by a Grignard reaction between 5-p-tolylhexan-2-one and a lower alkyl magnesium iodide to give 2-lower alkyl-5-p-tolyl-hexan-2-ol, which is then treated with concentrated sulphuric acid to yield 1 : 4 : 7 - trimethyl - 1 - lower alkyl - 1 : 2 : 3 : 4 - tetrahydronaphthalene which is acetylated with acetyl chloride. Examples are given.
