Abstract

785,343. Screening apparatus. MARE. E. June 21, 1955 [June 25, 1954]. No. 17977/55. Class 117 [Also in Group XXVIII] A screen for the size separation of solid particles or the removal of dust from air, consists of smooth, flexible, tensioned strands of uniform diameter assembled parallel to one another in a flat plane, the spaces between adjacent strands being less than 50 microns, the strands extending between supports allowing individual vibration of the strands. In Fig. 2 a double screen of spaced strands 15 is produced by winding a filament around end members 11 which are-spaced apart by threaded rods 12 and nuts 14 which butt against lugs 13. If the filament is of ferro-magnetic wire, an electromagnet 16, Fig. 3, supplied with pulsating current may be placed between the screen layers to vibrate them. Alternatively, the vibrations may be produced by mechanical impact or by sound waves. The members 11 may be stretched lengthwise to increase the strand spacing, or the latter may be reduced by passing an electric current through the strands or by spraying them with a liquid.
