Abstract

783,587. Mixing fluids in flow. STABILIMENTI ELETTROMECCANICI RIUNITI ANSALDO-SAN GIORGIO SOC. PER AZIONI. Nov. 8, 1955 [Jan. 15, 1955; Sept. 10, 1955], No. 31885/55. Class 86 [Also in Groups XVIII and XIX] In dispenser-meter apparatus for delivering mixtures of petrol and oil in preselected proportions, pumps 4, 5 suck petrol and oil respectively from their tanks and deliver the fluids to a mixing chamber 22 in a dispensing gun 21, meters being provided to indicate the quantity of fuel and oil, both separately and admixed, and the price of the mixture on the base of preset unit prices. Petrol from the pump 4 passes through an air-trap 7 to a piston valve distributer 24, causing rotation of a shaft 26, and then flows through a membrane stop valve 11, pilot fan-wheel 12, and through flexible piping 13 to the dispensing gun 21. Similarly oil from the pump 5 is delivered to an air trap 15 and then passes through a piston valve distributer 17, causing rotation of a shaft 27, and then flows through a membrane stop valve 18, pilot fan-wheel 19 and flexible piping 20 to the dispensing gun 21. The mixing ratio is pre-set by rotation of a knob 114, Fig. 4, by which the appropriate gear ratio between shafts 26 and 27 is engaged. The knob 114 is integral with a slotted cam 115 which is engaged by the ends of a rocking lever 117 which are attached by rods 118, 119 to clutches in the drives to the pumps 4, 5, so that in the extreme positions, when there is no output required from one of the pumps, the drive thereto is disconnected. Also in these extreme conditions, detents 111, 120 in the gearing hold the appropriate shaft 27, 26 stationary. Meters 221, 222 indicate the separate total volume of oil and petrol delivered, the motions of shafts 27 and 26 being transmitted through shafts 218, 212 respectively for the purpose. The motions of shafts 218 and 212 are transmitted through gearing 224, 223 to a differential 225 which sums the volume of each individual dispensing operation and the resultant motion is transmitted through shaft 228 and gears 229, 230 to counting wheels 31 which can be set to zero at the end of each dispensing operation. A helicoidal coupling 232 and gears 33, 34 transmit the motion of shaft 228 to a totalizator 35 which records the total volume dispensed for all dispensing operations. Gear sets 29, 30 are provided on shafts 218, 212 respectively whereby gears 36, 37, 38 may be meshed according to the appropriate unit current prices of oil and petrol respectively. The cost of each dispensing of each liquid is summed on differentials 39 and the total cost is then summed on a central differential 40 and the result transmitted through gearing 41, 42 and shaft 43 to counting wheels 44 which indicate the total cost of each dispensing operation. A helicoidal coupling 45 and gears 46 actuate a totalisator 47 on which the total cost of all dispensing operations is recorded.
