Abstract

Class 65(2) [Also in Group VII] A last hinge comprises at least one link 20 of resilient metal apertured by a plurality of closed-ended slots 24, 26 to form, in effect, two opposed side members 25, 27 of different curvature connected at their ends 28, 29 and intermediately 21. The links 20, disposed in slots 33, 34.in the last are connected to anchor pins 15, 16 arranged so that a line joining the pins falls respectively to one side or the other of the axis of rotation 12 as the last is collapsed or extended, and the last is snapped into these positions as the links 20 are elongated while passing over the deadcentre position. Each link 20 is stamped. from tough resilient metal to form the side members 25, 27 of substantially the same width, and may be formed from narrower strip, leaving a greater thickness of wood below recesses 33, 34, if the end sections of the lower member 27 are removed. As shown in Fig. 2, a pair of links 20 are used side by side, separated by a spacer plate 31 which has enlarged holes for pins 15, 16, and resists separation of the last parts when extraordinary pressures are applied.
